I had gone to Hope Valley in the Sierras one day before my September 2015 three day plein air workshop was to begin to scout locations. Some of my favorite locations were ruled out in that there would not be enough parking for four or five cars. I couldn't help stopping at my favorite location in Hope Valley on the West Fork of the Carson River late that afternoon. This location is on Highway 88 about one mile west of the junction of highways 88 and 89. There was smoke in the air but it created nice gray orange color in the sky that looked somewhat like a twilight. The color was primarily from the smoke rolling in from the Butt fire to the southwest that would ultimately cause the workshop to be cancelled on the second day! I could probably paint this scene from my memory because of the number of times I have painted here. In fact, I probably will do that as an exercise in the near future. Who knows, maybe I'll get a TV show like Bob Ross used to have painting a scene from nothing in twenty or thirty minutes! Probably NOT!!
