Coastal Kaleidoscope

This is a studio painting completed with only a palette knife using a plein air painting, digital images and sketches for reference.  Ive painted in this location many times and it is one of my favorite painting locations along the California coast north of Big Sur. 

I particularly loved doing this with a palette knife.  The abstract movements of the palette knife in an alla prima manner bring a new dimension to this painting making the rock formations look more realistic then I could have ever accomplished with a brush.

This painting is framed in a beautiful gallery quality walnut colored wood frame.
