On July 16, 2015 Mike did an Orange/Blue Complimentary Palette painting demonstration for the Folsom Arts Association in Folsom, CA.  This demonstration painting was done using a graphite sketch of a mountain scene in the Tioga Pass without photography or other support.  The sketch, noted below, was 3" x 4", which had the same dimensional characteristics as the 9" x 12" linen board on which Mike completed the demo painting.

Mike used a palette of colors as follows:  Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red Light, Cobalt Blue, Blue Violet, and Viridian.  He also used Titanium White and Black.  The original six colors were determined by using the compliments and split compliments of the Primary Blue and Secondary Orange noted on a typical color wheel.  The substrate was first toned with a Burnt Sienna which is an earth tone Orange.  The result in approximately an hour and a half is as follows:

Mike has been doing these complimentary color demos for students and art organizations for several years to show how easy it is to create color harmony using a rather limited palette of colors.
